Apple Revealed that OpenELM Will Not Be Used in Apple Inteligence


Apple had declared that it’s AI powered feature which was a key highlight of the iOS 18 will not be trained on YouTube videos. A report by Wired revealed that Apple along with other tech companies is using YouTube videos to train their AI models. The report further revealed that over 170K videos picked from various popular YouTube channels were used for this purpose. The dataset contained all the videos which were used for training. The models for which it is done were the company’s OpenELM models.


According to confirmation by Apple to 9to5Mac, it is not using these OpenELM models in the upcoming iOS 18 features which include the Apple Inteligence and other AI features ranging from Siri to Safari. “We don’t intent to use OpenELM for our upcoming features in the iOS upgrades, but it will be used for research purposes.”, revealed Apple. 


Also, Apple recalled that the OpenELM model is trained on specific and “Licensed Data”, which is used for training and improving specific features as the company wants. “There is no plan of us in developing the OpenELMs further”, Apple iterated.
